1967 Austin Healey, Mk III, BJ8, phase 2
This spectacular “Big Healey”, built on February 6, 1967, is less than 3000 numbers from the end of production. It was purchased in 1988 and brought to Arizona in 1991 by the previous owner (3rd owner overall). It went through a complete professional rotisserie restoration which was completed in 1992 (less than 15,000 miles ago). The car was restored specifically to run in the Copper State 1000, which the previous owner entered and finished 6 times starting in 1993. He is happy to discuss the history of the car and his detailed mechanical work on request. This car is almost perfect!

During the original restoration, the engine, transmission and overdrive were completely rebuilt with documentation. A heavy duty oil pump was installed, the radiator enlarged and cored for cooler operation (even in Arizona, I have never had an overheating problem), plus a new rear axle and leaf springs were installed. The car has a stainless steel exhaust, Pertronix electronic ignition, stainless fuel tank, halogen headlamps, spin-on oil filter, a new battery and has been converted to negative ground.

I just completed a complete interior and exterior restoration. There is absolutely no rust anywhere on the car, just verified by the painter who stripped it completely prior to repainting with Olde English white. The door and kick panels, padded dash and console are all brand new. The top is as good as new, as are the tonneau and boot cover. The front seats were replaced by the previous owner, and the rear buckets and panels are original and still in great shape. The interior was stripped to the bare metal, repainted and new Heritage carpet was installed. The footwells were lined with Dynamat for cooler interior temperatures and the transmission tunnel was insulated (I will supply pictures). I refurbished the roll up windows. The door and top seals were replaced. The wood dash is perfect and the instruments have been totally restored. The original steering wheel was replaced with a Moto Lita wood wheel. It has a brand new AM/FM/CD radio, badge bar and five Dunlop 72 spoke chrome wire wheels recently fitted with new Komho radials and tubes. The owner’s handbook, factory manual and car cover are included along with the BMIHT certificate.

I purchased the car in May, 2000 and have put 4000 miles on it with absolutely no problems. I change the engine and transmission oil once a year, tune it up and flush the cooling system. This car is a superb example of a mechanically perfect Healey that was just professionally repainted and could be a gold medal concours winner with very little work. The original restoration mechanic will discuss his work and has recently inspected the car giving it a clean bill of health. This is a very original car with no damage history. It is a head turner, and if you want a dependable driver as well as a good looking classic British Sports Car, this is it. 480-419-9900. Price is negotiable.
